START:  About six miles beyond Flesher Pass

DISTANCE:  62 miles (99.8 km)

DAILY AVERAGE:  31 miles (49.9 km)

TOTAL DISTANCE:  367 miles (590.5 km)

Helena or Bust!: Arrived into Helena on fumes. It had been about 240 miles between resupply points. Camera battery dead. Same for the phone. Food supplies had also gone the way of the Dodo. Maybe I was just imagining it, but I’m pretty sure the Grim Reaper himself was tapping me on the shoulder those last few miles into McDonald’s Pass! Hyperbole aside, I was one weary, hungry and footsore Antipodean.

Average Town Stop: Hitch in from trailhead………collect resupply box………check into motel……..20/30 minutes stretching……..go to supermarket & buy vegetables, fruit, ice cream, roast chicken etc……..if no fresh produce available, pick up some V8 vegetable juice………back to motel, begin eating…….put clothes in washing machine………have a quick shower, followed by a long bath (hopefully with some Epsom salts I included in my resupply box)……..back to laundry, put clothes in dryer………a couple more snacks whilst watching ESPN Sportscentre……….remove clothes from dryer……..go for dinner; pizza, AYCE buffet, steak & vegetables; anywhere with big, filling, reasonably priced servings…….check email and catch up on world news over dinner…….back to motel……..call family in Australia on Skype……..watch movie or sports for a few hours whilst snacking on fruit and veggies or maybe just straight into the Ben & Jerry’s………drift off to sleep……….wake up early; 40-60 minutes meditation/yoga……..have a large serving of fresh fruit……….go for a big breakfast………..take another bath………pack bag; normally pack out some fresh fruit and veggies for first day or two……..check out………hitch back to trailhead.
