START: Turpin Meadow (six miles from Togwotee Lodge)
FINISH: Just south of Lester Pass
DISTANCE: 102 miles (164.1 km)
DAILY AVERAGE: 34 miles (54.7 km)
TOTAL DISTANCE: 1042 miles (1676.6 km)
The Wind River Range. Stunning glacial cirques, alpine lakes, jagged granite peaks; a jewel amongst America’s Wilderness Areas. No, I’m not angling for a spot on Wyoming’s Tourism Board…….it really is pretty nice (see photos below). The highlight? The Knapsack Col Route. Not actually part of the “official” CDT, nonetheless for the sake of an extra half day, it is one of those not-to-be-missed areas which I would highly recommend to all future CDT hikers.
