Walk 2 Connect

The primary goal of The Hiking Life website is to encourage and enable folks to put on a pair of shoes, grab a pack and go for a walk.

Walk2Connect, a Colorado based social enterprise that organises local walking trips, has a similar mission. In the words of its founder, Jonathon Stalls, its objective is “to transform walking from a choice, to a behavior to a lifestyle.”

I first heard of Jonathon a few months ago via a mutual friend of ours, Teresa Martinez, head of the Continental Divide Trail Coalition. She told me about this colleague of hers who had “walked across the States, raised more than half a million dollars for charity, and was helping out with the CDTC.” Sounded like a good bloke. She directed me to a Ted Talk that Jonathon had given at the University of Colorado, in which he outlined the goals of Walk2Connect:

Last week I tagged along on one of Jonathon’s community walks around Denver. It was an excellent way to see the downtown area (I had just arrived the day before), learn a bit about local history and meet some like-minded folks. To cap off a great afternoon, we ended our hike with a few beers and some pub grub at the Wynkoop Brewery.
