An overdue shout out to a couple of great ladies that are currently hiking the CDT. Their names are Christy “Rockin” Rossander and Erin “Wired” Saver (see photo below; Rockin’ is on the left). I had the good fortune of meeting the former whilst hiking the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) last year, and have been in email contact with the latter over the past few months.
Avid hikers both, Rockin and Wired are active members of the PCT community. Wired has given presentations and has done trail maintenance work in her home state of Oregon. Rockin’ founded a wonderful programme by the name of tHInK outsidE, designed to educate school students and teachers about the PCT.
In addition to the above mentioned activities, this dynamic duo also happen to be two of the most prolific hiking bloggers on the planet. They each keep an extensive daily journal (Lady on a Rock & Walking With Wired) which is accompanied by multiple photos from each hiking day.
This is no small task. At day’s end, when most people are drifting off to the land of nod, Wired and Rockin’ are busily tapping away on their smart phones doing their best to keep their dedicated followers updated.
Indeed, Wired apparently gets by on 5 or 6 hours of sleep a night, whilst her companion, who is 55 going on 25, has recently signed a six figure deal with Mattel to bring out a ‘Rockin’ action figure, that’s able to ford raging rivers and cross impossibly steep snow slopes in the blink of an eye. It’s still unconfirmed, but there have also been reports that Rockin’ will be headlining Wrestlemania 30, 2014 in a cage match against her name sake (of sorts), Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
