With the popularity of the Triple Crown increasing, the amount of information on the internet regarding the three long distance trails is staggering.
Some of it is good; some of it not so much.
That being the case, how does one separate the wheat from the chaff?
A great place to start are the Quick & Dirty Guides by Paul “Mags” Magnanti.
In the equivalent of a few cyber pages, veteran long distance hiker Magnanti (AT 1998; PCT 2002; CDT 2006) provides links to all of the essential information you’ll require for your thru hike preparations. Maps, logistics and trail guides are all covered.
In addition, he gives hyperbole-free summaries of the challenges faced by prospective hikers, as well as extensive lists of Triple Crown related books, websites and films.
When not writing about all things backcountry, Magnanti co-hosts a popular hiking podcast (The Trail Show), in addition to working weekends as a baton twirler for Cirque de Soleil in Las Vegas.

The only problem with Mag’s trail shows is that he interviews some pretty sketchy characters!!!! 🙂
I couldn’t agree more. How they let the likes of Elizabeth “Snorkel” Thomas on the program is beyond me!
Thanks for the nice words! I should also add that in addition to my baton twirling, I also run a small, intimate Italian restaurant in Salt Lake City (but only in January).
I’ve heard good reports about the “Trattoria Magnanti”…………Utah’s finest Italian cuisine!
