The Wave is one of the geological highlights of the southwestern United States. Located at Coyote Buttes near the Arizona/Utah border, it is a multi-coloured rock formation that is comprised of interconnected sandstone gullies. Situated amongst sentinel-like conical domes, the swirling strata and eroded forms of The Wave have a surreal feel; sort of like being transported by Mother Nature into a Salvador Dali painting.
The images below were taken during the Hayduke (HT) section of the Southwestern Horseshoe (SWH). The SWH is an approximately 1800 mile route through Utah, Arizona & New Mexico that links together three of the most spectacular long distance hikes in the USA; namely the Hayduke, Arizona (AZT) and Grand Enchantment Trails (GET).
